Greek Word of The Day
OK, this is a game I am playing some times with my poor English parents-in-law. With me being the opponent, Judge and Game Master, all at the same time. They have no hope of ever winning but, being good-sports, they never stop trying. They still can't go past the Kalimera, Kalispera stage, mind you, after 24 years of having a Greek son-in-law, so not realy my fault - or theirs for that matter.
They say that someone who speaks two languages is called a bilingual, someone who speaks three languages is called a trilingual and so on. Someone who speaks only one is simply called...English.
The rules are simple.
Rule 1: You post me your choice of Greek Word of the Day and I award as many points as I feel fit, with my mood being the only important criterio. At the end of the day the winner wins a Turkish delight, which is in itself, both, an oxymoron and an anathema, (the immediate metaphoric and actual use of mouth-wash is implied after every mention of the word "Turkish" for all Greeks)
Rule 2. The posting and mistaken use of any Turkish or Latin based word in the Greek Word of The Day competition, is strictly prohibited and will result to an automatic disqualifiction, it will eliminate automaticaly all your previous points and of course your soul will burn in hell for the rest of eternity and you may even get blind if you do it very often.
Rule 3. This is the last and least important rule. You cannot use any dictionary or any other outside help, but being Greek I don't bother very much about this. It is always OK to cheat in order to win, for as long as you don't get caught doing it. I have friends who managed to get the entire PHDs on this very principle, they are not very good at what they have studied but their mum is happy and the frame looks good. One of them is a dentist, don't go there.
Should you get caught however, you must simply deny it, adopting a face of utter indignation in the very suggestion. You can practise this by studying and immitating the look of all past and present Greek politicians caught in the same situation. A good imitation of the GreekPoliticianLook will result to 1.000.000.000 points, in the form of Euros in numerous, untraceable overseas bank accounts. You can return a 10th of it back, keep the rest and after you spend a couple of years in luxurious comfort then you are free again to enjoy your life. It's like the Jail in Monopoly you can go in and out as you please. Anyway, I better stop this or else you may think I am bitter.
Good luck and remember that Gods have created us all equal, this is why you are AllGreekToMe.
